COCONUT OIL BETTER THAN DEET AT REPELLING INSECTS, COMPELLING NEW RESEARCH SHOWS

DEET, also known as the main insect repellant, can lead to a series of health issues. Not to be taken lightly, DEET can seriously impact the immunity, cause sperm irregularities, affects the nervous system, cause itching, seizures and else.

Proving this is a research by Duke University, which went on to show how exposure to DEET can result in memory issues and behavior escalations in tested rats.
In addition to this finding, the Toxic Substances and Disease registry listed DEET responsible for 8 deaths thus far.
All lethal cases were a result of digesting or topically applying DEET to the skin. But, no worries, there is a suitable, healthy and beyond favorable alternative to using DEET.
Coconut Oil as an Insect Repellant
According to a study released in Scientific Reports, experts in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service concluded that coconut oil is strong enough to provide the same effects of a regular insect repellent, thus introducing health benefits, too.
In fact, the fatty content in coconut oil is in charge of keeping beetles, mosquitoes and biting insects away from you.
Alongside these findings, this group also explained that coconut oil is able to continuously battle insect bites and provide lasting effects in return.
Some of the qualities which make coconut oil as effective against insects is its high content of lauric acid and healthy fats. Digesting lauric acid allows the body to turn this into monolaurin, responsible for eradicating lipid-boosted viruses.
Essential Oils Help
To enhance the effects of coconut oil, add essential oils of your choosing for topical application against insects.
The most effective oils, in this case, would be lavender, citronella or tea tree oil. In some instances, you can even mix all three together with your coconut oil.
Additional Benefits of Using Coconut Oil
Aside from keeping insects at bay, coconut oil harvests plenty of other benefits, such as:
  • Boosts the brain performance.
  • Helps in weight loss.
  • Keeps the skin hydrated and youthful.
  • Regulates cholesterol.
  • Eliminates bacteria, fungi, viruses, and inflammation.
  • Helps absorb nutrients from other healthy foods.
Cheers to coconut, and its mission to improve our overall health!
